Defining Prediabetes and Diabetes

The term "prediabetes" was first coined in 1979 by the World Health Organization and the National Diabetes Data Group. It is used to describe people who are likely to develop type 2 diabetes mellitus, and includes fasting glucose of 100 to 125 mg/dl and/or a glucose level of 140 to 199 mg/dl two hours after stimulation with 75 grams of glucola.
